Research Interests

The Unit's team includes Professor Sally Poppitt, Professor David Cameron-Smith, Professor Garth Cooper and Dr Anne-Thea McGill and has more than 10 years of experience performing nutrition intervention trials in areas including:

  • obesity, weight control & appetite regulation
  • metabolic syndrome
  • cardiovascular and diabetic risk

 Studies include investigations into:

  • dairy-derived lipids and proteins
  • soluble and insoluble dietary fibres
  • dietary lipids including omega-3 fatty acids (fish oils)

 The Unit has a  range of expertise in trials in the following areas:

  • Lean, healthy volunteer subjects
  • Obesity and weight control
  • Regulation of appetite control
  • Obesity-related metabolic disorders inc metabolic syndrome, pro-inflammatory cytokine & adipose tissue hormone studies
  • Cardiovascular risk, including dyslipidaemias
  • Type 2 diabetes
    including diet-controlled residential studies.
