Marta Silvestre graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Nutritional Sciences from University of Porto, Portugal. She went on to complete her PhD in Biopathological Sciences from University of Lisbon, Portugal (in collaboration with Queen Mary University of London, UK). During her PhD project at the Blizard Institute of Cell and Molecular Science in London, she investigated lipid, muscle and liver metabolism in obesity-related type 2 diabetes. She is currently undertaking her postdoctoral training at the Human Nutrition Unit, School of Biological Sciences, University of Auckland. Marta is actively involved in an international diabetes prevention trial to determine the effect of a high protein, low glycemic index diet in combination with physical activity, on the incidence of type 2 diabetes in pre-diabetic individuals.
